History of a Music Video

History of Music Videos:

Evolution of Music Videos:

- The Buggles had their video filmed in both black and white and in colour. The video featured themselves along with others such as the little girl in the chorus. This is similar to the 'get like me' video by Nelly, Pharrell & Nicki Minaj (2013).
- Madonna used her video in complete colour, only featuring herself during the chorus.
- There are two versions for "Sweet Child O' Mine", one totally in black and white and an alternative which features both black and white and colour. The video consists of the band rehearsing for a performance and includes all the members of the band and their girlfriends at the time.
- Rhythm is a dancer consists of many dancers and the woman (Thea Austin) along with her back up band.
- Despite videos being able to be filmed in colour, Jackson still decided to leave it in black and white despite the other videos at this time using colour. This is similar to Bang Bang by Will.I.Am (2013) being filmed in black and white which has an old time feel due to the graphics used.

- The 1998 Britney video and the 2001 Halliwell video includes dance choreography based in a school; this becomes a new trend. Spears said by setting it in a school it would reflect the lives of her fans.
- Be Faithful (2003) is an all animated video, the animated character of Fatman Scoop sings. Good life (2007) features West and T-Pain performing with animated backdrops and often mouthing the words of the song lyrics, which appear in large letters. This shows that animation has become popular since the 2000s as it is sighted in 'fly on the wings of love' which was released in 2000
- Kings and Queens includes the band having a live performance filmed all in colour.
- As long as you love me has a drama sequence before the video starts to give an insight to the meaning of the song, the drama is then followed through why Bieber sings the song.
- Gaga uses a range of black and white and colour scenes.

Initial Research Ideas

Possible Artist Research

As some basic research I looked at a few possible music artists who have songs that we could use for our music video. This is just general research as currently we have not decided on a song nor got someone to star in the video, therefore the artist is open to being male or female. I listened to a few of their most famous songs to hear the lyrics and watch the official video, if available, in order to gather up the information of the common elements they share.
